OUR STORY

Legacy Farm in Southwest Washington

Kestrel Fields Farm is a legacy farm in Cathlamet, Washington, a river town on the lower Columbia River. It is managed with a vision of sustaining the farm’s agricultural and environmental heritage.

The farm's 1902 dairy barn, once near collapse, has been restored as a premiere equestrian facility.

Its 15 acres of hayfields and pasture are regularly limed, fertilized, and over-seeded to produce quality forage for horses, livestock, and native elk.

The farm partnered with Wahkiakum Conservation District to improve salmon habitat along its one-quarter mile of Elochoman River frontage.

A half-acre wildflower meadow was created with assistance from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to provide critical habitat for pollinators (bees, butterflies, and birds).

Farm owners, Brad Bortner and Sandra Staples-Bortner, invite you to visit the farm (by appointment) to learn about these restoration projects.
